dying with awareness
Tara Home is simply a place. But it is a very special place. Our guests come to us, one at a time, after a terminal diagnosis. They arrive already enrolled in hospice. Those who wish to die at Tara Home do so wanting a place where peace is more than a mantra, it is a way of life. Our guests desire the companionship of volunteers who give of their presence to deepen the dying process.
Norms to abide by
We accept applicants regardless of religious denomination, who know they will be in the presence of peaceful volunteers who come with knowledge of Buddhist practices of death and dying.
Guests must have a compatibility with the norms of Land of Medicine Buddha must be of personal value . They must be upheld and maintained throughout residency with respect.
Tara Home residencies are up to eight weeks in duration.
To be accepted in Tara Home, the resident must be a patient of a hospice and meet their criteria for admission. Guests are all enrolled in hospice but sometimes hospice admission and Tara Home admission are happening concurrently.
Hospice provides the medical care for Tara Home residents
The guest understands that their Hospice nurse or case manager will interface with Tara Home's director who will request records and support plan from Hospice. The guest will have a prognosis supported by medical records.
Only one person may reside in the cottage at a time.
It is not possible for family members or friends to live at Tara Home.
While family members and friends may not live at Tara Home, they may participate in the volunteer schedule as coordinated with Tara Home's director.
The guest understands that Tara Home's director will manage all volunteer scheduling.
There are monthly residence charges and food and telephone policies.
Tara Home is an alcohol free premises.
Resident Admissions Agreements are discussed, signed, and adhered to, otherwise residency is forfeited.
If there is an opening, and once the referral is accepted, it may take up to 10 days before the new resident moves into Tara Home.
Tara Home is a place to die, not a place to live (but it is not a Hospice).
Tara Home works in partnership with the patient's licensed Hospice organization.
